The Viedial Diabetes Prevention program is a life-long program for women of African descent with pre-diabetes. The program has the following phases;
- First six months: The first six months are made up of one-hour coaching sessions that are held once a week. During this time, we hope to support you to achieve the following health goals;
- to lose at least 5% of your starting weight.
- start and maintain the regular physical activity of at least 150 minutes a week.
- start and maintain healthy eating habits – eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, reduce sugar intake, reduce eating unhealthy fats, and reduce salt/sodium intake.
- manage stress.
- Track your progress using the Viedial app.
To help you achieve these goals, we will help you understand how your current life stage (pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, post-pregnancy, and menopause) and your current circumstances (workload, child care, budget) affect you and your goals. We will guide you to navigate them and successfully achieve your health goals.
- Second six months: The second six months comprise one-hour coaching sessions held once a month. We hope to support you in maintaining the health goals and habits you achieved in the first six months. These are:
- Maintain the weight you have lost and avoid adding more.
- Keep losing weight until you have a healthier weight.
- Maintain or increase physical activity levels.
- Continue tracking your progress using the Viedial app.
After one year: we will support you in continuing to track your progress and observe changes in your life stage or personal circumstances that may increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and other heart diseases. We will support you in coping with these changes in a manner that reduces your cardiovascular risk factors.
